PM Show

I would like to thank the committee of the Northern Staffordshire Bull Terrier Club Of New Zealand for the invitation to judge at your Championship Show as well as all the exhibitors who brought their dogs to show under me.  A Special thanks to Gordon and all the 'drivers' for transporting me and Frans around.  I thoroughly enjoyed going over all your dogs.  It was great meeting some lovely people after the show along with a fantastic spread that could feed an army.

In general:  The bitches offered better quality and depth today.  I believe you can improve your staffords by considering darker eyes, stronger underjaws, deeper stops, cleaner lips as well as more depth in skulls.  Breeders should also be mindfull of converging canines and short toes with their breeding - it's not mentioned within the standard, but they are genetic defects that's spotted more and more frequently.

Apart from one dog - I found all males entire.

Resuls & Critiques

Baby Puppy Dog (1ent,0ab)
1. Oakstaff Rumbuster (NAF) - R Wood
This baby puppy shows promise.  Strong round bone and good pigmentation around the eyes, lips and nails.  A strong muzzle and fair head.  Round, dark eyes and rose ears (little bit heavy).  His shoulders clean, with straight bone, strong pasterns and well padded tight feet.  Close coupled.  Moved on a loose lead with confidence.  Showed well for his age.

Minor Puppy Dog (1ent,0ab)
1. Warfare Revenge Of The Fallen - V & H Joyce
This young dog had a dark, round eye.  Was broad in skull - ears rose, whch he'll hopefully grow into.  His front was clean, with well laid back shoulders.  Legs straight in front, well boned, set rather wide apart.  Well sprung ribs.  Stifles well bent and hock well let down.  Legs parallel and pump handle tail.  Still time to develop.

Puppy Dog (3ent,0ab)
1. Exile Ride The Lightning - P, S & E Clarke
An impressive, well handled pup.  I enjoyed his well chisselled, well proportioned head piece - free of wrinkles.  Pronounced stop, deep through skull, strong muzzle & underjaw, dark eyes and neat rose ears completing the picture.  His front straight and clean in outline - well boned front with developing rear to match.  Tight feet slightly turned with strong pasterns.  Neck strong, rather short and clean in outline.  Level topline.  Close in coupling with well bent stifles and hocks well let down.  Tail well set on.  A pup with a bright future.

2. Challenger Metal Guru - M & C Anderson
This dog had strength of muzzle and dark eyes.  I would've preferred a little deeper stop and full pigmentation around the eyes.  Ears rose.  Lips and nose black.  Strong round bone all round.  Front clean and straight.  Pasterns strong and tight feet.  Well ribbed and short in loin.  Topline level.  Tail set on low.  Moved parallel front and back.

3. Challenger Limited Edition - M Meredith
Not quite the same in balance to the first two.  Good depth in skull.  Could have more strength in underjaw for me, otherwise well proportioned.  Ears rose.  Brisket deep with pronounced sternum, legs straight.  Pasterns not as strong as first.  Would've preferred more angulation and second thigh development in hindquarter.

Junior Dog (6ent,2ab)
1. Rojeme Pop Gun - S New
RBOB, CD
Storng, clean well proportioned & chiselled head.  Deep through, small rose ears and brown eyes.  Strong neck and good clean shoulder, ample round bone and straight front.  Pasterns storng, feeth tight and well padded.  Level top line, good spring of rib and tuck-up and strong back end with good depth of muscle.  Moved parallel.  If anything i would've like a bit more bend in stifle and overall keenness but neve rthe less an impressive specimen, handled well.  RBIS

2. Challenger Necromancer - M & C Anderson
RCD
Well chiselled, well proportioned head with lovely keen expression - dark eyes set wide apart on broad skull.  Small, thin rose ears.  Muzzle strong.  Front clean and strong bone.  Well tucked up.  He can do with confidence and concentration when moved.  Could easily change places on another day.

3. Renegade Midnite Storm - K Morton & A Payne
Lacking in head proportion to first and second placed (1:3 - muzzle to skull ratio).  Would've liked a shorter foreface and stronger underjaw on him.  Ears rose with thin leathers.  Front clean and well muscled up.  Round bone and strong pasterns.  Feet tight with nails short and pointing into ground.  Well ribbed body lean and fit with more daylight then previous two.

Intermediate Dog (2ent,0ab)
1.  Aust/NZ Ch Shkiri Don't Ask (Imp Aust) - G & K Laws & S & P Aldous
Another well headed dog, fit, muscled and presented in peak condition.  Deep, broad skull of good proportions.  Typical round, dark eyes.  Celan in head, pronounced stop and small rose ears with keen expression.  Strong neck flowing into well laid back shoulders.  Pasterns strong, slightly slanting with neat feet.  Well tucked-up.  A little long in loin with well developed hind quarters.  Pump handle tail, carriage low set.  Handled well.

2. Surestaff Ultimatum (Imp UK) - L & D Blackwood
Not quite the same balance as first.  Head deep with pronounced dome and cheek muscles.  Bigger rose ears with thin leathers. Muscled with clean shoulders, front legs strong and striaght.  A little tight in front for me and i would've preferred width and bend in hindquarters.

NZ Bred Dog (4ent,0ab)
1. Ch Challenger Hang Em High - P & S Clarke
Head strong, deep through with pronounced stop.  Rose ears small, complimenting his lovely head.  Well developed cheek muscles.  Eyes dark and round, set well apart and looking staight ahead.  Standing square.  Well muscled up with round bone.  Pasterns slightly turning out and tight toes.  Pump handle tail, of medium length, set on low.  Well ribbed up, short in loin with parallel movement.  Hocks well let down and pump-handle tail.  A worthy title holder.

2.  Challenger Casey Stoner - M & C Anderson
Losing out to first on overall type and balance.  This dog didn't quite have the definition or depth in skull that i would've liked - it had clean lips and rose ears.  Brown eyes, could be rounder.  Front wide.  Legs straight and strong.  Well ribbed-up.  Level topline.  Hocks well let down, tail set on low.

3.  Ch Rojeme Tarbuck - A Baars
This dog has a good round brown eye, with keen expression.  Well pronounced stop.  Small rose ears, strong in muzzle.  Strong clean neck.  Straight, strong front - set well apart with strong pasterns and nice tight feet.  Body lean and fit.  Top-line not always level.  Hindquarters muscular and parallel to front.

Veteran Dog (3ent,2ab)
1. Aust/NZ Ch Belleden Golden Prince (Imp Aust) - R Wood
Well headed red dog, pronounced stop, and dark round eyes - with keen expression.  Black pigmentation on nails, eyerims and nose & lips.  Dark muzzle clean from wrinkles, in good proportion to his skull and with great strength.  Small, thin ears.  Neck strong.  Front a little tight for me but straight, clean and of good bone.  Short in coupling and well tucked up.  Hindquarter well muscld and hocks let down.  Moved parallel and level.  In great condition for his age and worthy of his title.

Open Dog (4ent,0ab)
1. Kidsgrove Buck Rogers - B Parkinson
Strong headed dog, developed cheek muscles and pronounced dome.  Good stop.  A bit lippy for me, black nose and dark eyes with good pigmentation, small rose ears well placed.  Forechest developed.  Front broad and clean, strong in bone with tight feet and toes - nails short.  Body fit and well conditioned - could be a tad shorter to give balance.  Moved freely.  Pump handle tail set on low.  Well handled.

2. NZ Ch Stoneheart Walkawyteline (Imp Aust) - M & C Anderson
Deep skull with good proportions, strong in muzzle, brown eyes and small rose ears.  Good pigmentation on lips and nose.  Would've liked to see a little more pigment around his eye without the patch.  Neck short and strong.  Well laid - clean shoulders.  Strong round bone toes tight - nails short.  Well sprung ribs, brisket deep, short in loin.  Moved with purpose and level.  Hindquarters muscled.  Lost out to first on keenness today.

3.  NZ Ch Wyrefare Dazzler (Imp UK) - S & M Chapman
A Clean, well proportioned head with strong muzzle and underjaw.  Would've liked smaller ears, a bit more width between his front legs and a darker eye.  Strong well laid back shoulders flowing into solid front legs set well under him.  Neck well muscled flowing into muscled withers and topline.  Well ribbed up, short in loin, with developed hindquarters.  Pump handle tail.

Baby Puppy Bitch (1ent,0ab)
1. Oakstaff Razzledazzle - R Wood
Strong head, free of wrinkles.  Deep with a lovely strong underjaw, dark round eyes and good pigmentation.  Needs to grow into her ears.  Muzzle strong with lovely under jaw.  Clean front, prominent sternum, deep in brisket and well ribbed-up.  Hindquarters needs to develop.  Moved well on day but lacked confident.  Promising baby.

Minor Puppy Bitch (3ent,0ab)
1. Westwood Dream On - A McOnie-Perfect
Head in head with too much skin - pronounced stop, dark round eyes and biggish rose ears.  Would've liked more strength in underjaw.  Clean well laid shoulders, ample bone and strong pasterns.  Body well ribbed-up.  Hind strong.

2.  Exile For Whom The Bell Tolls - P, S & E Clarke
Clean in head.  Ears rose.  Front a little tight for me.  Toes tight with strong pasterns.  Can have a bit more width in between front legs and more bone.  Short in loin.  Well presented.

3.  Aldoushire Any Given Sunday - S & P Aldous
Head not quite as deep as i would've liked, and also would've liked a stronger underjaw.  Rose ears.  Legs straight.  Toes could be tighter.  Body clean and in relation to her height.  Pump handle tail.  Shown well.

Puppy Bitch (3ent,0ab)
1.  Alphacanines Isis - D Beattie & C Craw
A Clean looking bitch without exaggerations - strong well shaped head, deep stop, dark round eyes - looking straight ahead - rose ears with well developed cheek muscles.  Legs straight and well boned, pasterns could be stronger.  Nails can be shorter.  Shoulders well laid back with no looseness at elbow.  Balanced body.  Muscled with well angulated rear-end.  Confident.  Promising.

2. Rojeme Black Opal - S & G Meredith
Head of good proportions, lovely dome, kind round eye distinct stop - rose ears a little on the big side.  Legs straight, set well apart, showing no weakness at the pasterns.  Feet/toes could be tighter.  Shoulders well laid back with no looseness.  Balanced body - short in loin.  Would like to see more muscle on the second thigh which should develop with age.  Tail of medium length, low-set & tapering to a point.  Needs confidence.

3.  Westwood Dare To Dream - C Clay
This bitch might be a lovely pet, but (in my opinion) sadly not a show dog - sorry.

Junior Bitch (2ent,0ab)
1. Renegade Dazzling-Storm - S Chapman
A strong, neat bitch.  Well headed, short, deep through with broad skull.  Very pronounced cheek muscles, distinct stop, short muzzle and eyes dark enough.  Rose ears - small & thin.  Would've liked a little more width in front with a bit more forechest.  Clean neck sloping into well laid shoulder, ample bone, strong pasterns and tidy feet.  Short in coupling.  Well muscled hindquarters, hocks well let down with stifles well bent and lovely developed second thights.  Nice thickness in hind - Legs parallel when viewed from behind.  Tail medium length and low-set.  Good prospect.

2. Warfare Pussycat Doll - V Joyce

1. Pepstaff Makem Cry (Imp Aust) - S & P Aldous
